Its driving me mad trying to find what a 50s ?? guitar band instrumental with horse clip clopping sounds is titled.

I have heard it a good few times and they played it on Radio 6 the other day but the track playing information was wrong. Ive been through loads of instrumentals on i tunes but cant find it.

Its in a similar vein to the ventures/shadows and the key is that its a guitar band instrumental with a horse clip clopping sound in the background.

I will have to go and sing it in a oldie record shop at this rate :) That will be embarrassing!

You know it goes dum dum dum da da da da dum ,dum dum dum da da da dum in quite a deep guitar tone with the coconut sound in the back ground :D

Yes Im going mad! Do you just hate it when you dont know the name of a track. I'm not even massively into it. Oh well worth a try. Should I offer a small prize as an incentive ?:)

If have a smart phone download soundhound and try humming the tune to the phone. You could also use two coconut shells to replicate the clip clopping thing....... Good luck.

Quentin Tarantino would know. Ask him.
Go to Spotify and play lots of old Link Wray stuff. You may find it there.

Thanks everyone. I cant find it under Link Wray or spotniks. Its along the lines of something Link Wray might do but no.

Oh well. In these days of instant track information and referencing its so niggly when you cant place something. It will be a nice surprise when I do finally get it and I will post the result.
I had better go off and start singing it down the phone to musical experts :)

You don't mean "Mouldy Old Dough" by Lieutenant Pigeon? Although don't recall a clip-clop off the top of my head.

Not the track you're after, but, it does have the horse thing going on:

Have you tried looking under Davie Allen? Sounds like something he might have done.

No its not Davie Allen. Its along the lines of The Fireballs, The Tornadoes and The Shadows with titles like Riders in the sky or Geranimo. Its not even music Im much into which is the mad thing. The most similar thing to it is Riders in the sky and Apache.

Every time I see a western themed title I think this might be the one. Can nobody link the horse clip clopping effects which are very prominent?

I will eventually find it even if it kills me (with embarassment) :)

Dammit, this is bugging me too now.

All I can think of is the outro of Alma Mater on Alice Cooper's Schools Out. That was a spoof walking off into the sunset like an old schoolboy cowboy western.

Of course, that leads me into Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns or The Good, The Bad & The Ugly theme. Tried that?

Minstrel SE
11-07-12, 02:51 AM
Yes I have thousands of tacks including the good the bad and the ugly, film themes you name it.
Ive tried Duane eddy. Johnny and the hurricanes and all stuff that might be linked. Its either a 50s or 60s instrumental. I dont think its linked to a spaghetti western film score. Its not the end of alma mater.

I thought the horse clip clopping effect would jog something. A low plodding guitar twang. Dont worry I will get to the bottom of it and post the result.

If you think riders in the sky but different with..... oh who can I sing it to? Its been interesting going on a musical search as it brings up all sorts of tracks.

Im sure other people have songs in their head that they just cant place.

Not the sound I had in my head, but surf/garage with clip clop noises........

Just listened to this and it seems to be everything the OP describes.

Top Topham may be a bit young for a 50's instrumental. Not saying that isn't the correct answer, though.

Is it that Heinz group that Richie Blackmore used to play with?

Minstrel SE

Something mad like this can take you on an interesting musical journey to the very roots of music.

Its not the Top topham one but its in this general area.... I suppose the shadows is the nearest to it in general feel but it different enough. Almost like a pink panther meets hiawatha type feel :) Oh its impossible without translating the notes to a musical score.

If I knew the notes and timing I would write them down. I will have to hum it to an expert or forever let it fester. I can hardly go to a modern record shop and make a fool of myself.

Get some plastic cups for coconuts, sit at a table in front of your phone and make a video of you singing it, then put that on YouTube and post a link here.
I dare you.

Is it Husky Team by The Outlaws (or the version by The Saints)? Both of which are Joe Meek recordings.

Sugarfoot/Tenderfoot. It certainly had a clip clop percussion background. Oh no, it had lyrics. Bonanza had a twangy guitar - maybe there was a B-side.

Minstrel SE
13-07-12, 01:15 PM
Nope Sorry none of the above. The outlaws is getting closer with something like Indian Brave or Ambush.
It has that sort of feel. Radio 6 played it so it cant be too obscure :)
Im just going through 144 of the Joe Meek productions on one compilation!

Its made me realise that there is nothing worse than getting a song in your head and not being able to trace it. Especially as there are no lyrics so it couldnt be a harder challenge.

Leave it with me folks as it will only work if I go and hum it to someone that could possibly know it.

Are you sure its from the 50's?
It sounds very like a Jonathan Richman track from the 70's.

I LOVE YOU!!!!

THATS IT!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!! BRILLIANT!!!! I KNEW THIS FORUM WOULD COME UP TRUMPS!

I KNEW SOMEONE WOULD GET IT! Sorry if the fifties was misleading. They played it on six music but the now playing info was not updated. It doesnt get played much. Its not an out and out fave but I just had to know what it was!

I just couldnt place it. I hummed it to a few people and they looked at me like I was insane. Theres nothing worse than not being able to place a track. I was sure someone would get it on the clip cloppy sounds but it took a while :) My description is now going to look sadly lacking :)

Ive actually got roadrunner as one of my favourite tracks Duh!

I had given up on this because I wasnt about to make an idiot of myself humming it in a shop :) Ive now downloaded it from i tunes

You're brilliant cheers! I owe you one!

Ha ha - that is very well known. It's not horses hooves but some type of percussion instrument. 1970s hit so your description had me thinking about the wrong genre/era. Nearest I was thinking of was Dick Dale.

Yeah I know. "Egyptian Reggae" I cocked that right up. I didnt give people much to go on.

I havent heard many tracks with that type of percussion. The percussion symbolises something clopping along does it not? A camel maybe? :)

Its a great track, Jonathan Richman has penned many great songs, I do like the first modern lovers Lp, Pablo Picasso, road runner etc.
Collecting punk & new wave has its advantages!

Yes I really should have done that because you would have got it. My shyness and reluctance to take it any further meant it has stewed in my mind for over six months. You've got to admit it could have been embarrassing humming that. You would have had a right laugh :)

I knew all the notes by going dum dum da da dum dum dum.......or humming it......... :)

I thought it may possibly be 50s to 70s but I had no lyrics to go from. My friends and family didnt know.

Thanks again to Yveski for giving the answer despite my misleading description. Im sure many of you would have got it if my description hadnt been so vague and useless.

Many Thanks.

Yes I found there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to place a track.

Especially in this case as its an instrumental and radio 6 hadnt updated the track display information. I should have known all about Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers and I certainly wasnt going to be humming it to a stone faced record shop hipster :)

I thought Pink Fish Media would come up trumps and eventually it did. I didnt give people very much to go on.

If it helped just one more person then its all been worthwhile.. groan....tired cliche :D

All the very best

I think you'll find "Runaway Pony" BY Duane Eddy i think he recorded it in 1960 b / w "Girl on death row" sung by Lee Hazelwood. Never released in this country........... the end of "Runaway Pony" has the clip clop ending.

I hate to point this out but the mystery was solved quite a while ago and it was not the track you suggest.
