I am looking for a way to minimize the space required to store my DVDs (about 400).

I would like to keep the covers and inserts but get rid of the 'jewel' cases. Years ago in the US I came across some "DVD photo albums". Albums with elongated sleeves that would fit the disk and the cover art. However these days in Australia I only see CD albums and storage boxes. They have square sleeves that fit the disk but not the artwork (without turning to Origami)

Alternatives would be a book shelf or chest of drawers and store all the DVDs in their cases. I'd prefer a chest of shallow drawers as my bookshelves are full of CDs (and books) and I don't have spare wallspace for another shelf. Currently the DVDs are in plastic storage tubs which is not ideal for searching.

Has anyone got a good solution?

cheers
Gus

a slightly different approach would be to buy a squeezebox, SB+ or similar, rip all your CDs then put them (CDs) in the cellar! could also work within your budget, too.

Slappa is the best one I've seen so far.

Be wary of some CaseLogic cases as those scratches the disc over time.

I would photocopy the sleeve or print one off Amazon/Ebay to fit a CD case, then bung the original artwork in the loft and sleeve up the discs with the shrunk-down covers in the other side of the sleeve. One nice box later, job done. It takes up less space than a Squeezebox too.;)

The original poster seems to be talking about dvd's, so a squeezebox won't be much help.

In the UK, you can get good protective albums here http://www.arrowfile.com
I have some for my CDs. But I don't know whether it would be economic to send them to Australia.
