some interesting new/ish NZ bands for ya:

Tokey Tunes: have two albums out 'Caterpillar' and 'Butterfly', the sound is atmospheric grungy folk, if there is such a thing.

Pan Am: grunge indie rock, which is on the flying nun label.

Flying Nun used to (and probably still is?) release some great indie pop. Daddy's Highway by The Bats is amazing.
Now I prefer slightly different stuff though, so Birchville Cat Motel gets my vote for top NZ artist.
