Hi guys

From your experience with Nac A5 did you notice if that cable perform better with longer lengths?

Naim says in their amplifiers manual to use the Nac A5 with 3.5 metres at least.
Does it means Nac A5 can work better with Naim amps if it is longer?

Thanks for your opinions

From the Naim FAQ:

Oddly, after experimenting, I agree with them--5 meters sounds best.

I've always used the length I need. Without getting technical, the recommended minimum 3.5m thing is to stop you blowing up your amp, though I've never heard of anyone actually doing this.

I'm not about to sit down and experiment with different lengths, though you can find plenty of examples of people doing just that on the Naim forum.

I use 5m lengths now, which it seems is the optimum length.

Agreeing with Alex here...the differences in length (beyond the safe 3.5 meter recommendation) aren't that important up to 33 feet (longest length i've tested.) Certainly not worth experimenting with from a monetary standpoint unless you already have over 5m and can trim it down--buy more cds or vinyl instead.

You're welcome, Hi-Fi!

i spoke to naim about this and they say 3.5M is the minimum and 5M is optimal

Yet they used to use 11m or more runs in their dem room.......

The resistance of this stuff is so low and modern Naim power amps so much more stable apparently, I wouldn't lose any sleep if you have 4m or 12m per side. Whatever looks best in your room and makes you feel most comfortable.

The minimum length of 3.5 meters is for any speaker cable used on an amp that has no zobel network, such as Naim, NVA and Exposure.

FWIW Richard sells 1.5m lengths of NVA cable and doesn't make mention of a minimum length anywhere.

one minor point to bear in mind - at 3.5m+ you can sell on your A5 no problem and for ok money. might become an issue if you ever switch cable or amp. Shorter lengths of A5are a lot harder to shift (if you can shift 'em at all). Brutish stuff mind.
