Sad to read in Alan's editorial that Jim Theil has passed away.

I have huge respect for him as a designer with a clear vision, innovative thinking and a manufacturer with huge integrity.

The build quality of Theil's cabinets, with massively thick baffles and bracing for Africa, put most other manufacturers to shame.

They didn't skimp on drivers either, using premium components from the likes of Seas, Vifa, Scan and Dynaudio before they started making their own.

You have to admire the absolute commitment to the principal of time and phase coherent design, given the technical challenge and collateral effects of such an approach, even though the benefits are, to my ears, more in the area of soundstaging than timing.

A sad loss to the audio world.
