If Bono didn't track his vocals in the control room with the mix coming out of the monitors it might be a different story..

Funnily enough, I played Definitely Maybe the night before last, on vinyl, thru my shiny new pony box.

The album is actually extremely well-recorded, but compressed.

This is discussed , well to a certain extent, on the Definately Maybe DVD I bnought the other week.
Hard to believe that the infamous Oasis 'wall of sound' was intentional. Something to do with Oasis tracks sounding louder in a pub, compared to other tracks on the Jukie.

I believe that they said they had made a special effort to get better and more dynamic sound quality on the last album, ( Heathen Chemistry ), this is why the Vinyl version was brought out on 2 x 45 rpm discs rather than the more normal 33. I think it worked too as it sounds better to my ears, mind you I owned it for nearly a year before i got to play it due to not having 45 rpm facility on my LP12,. Luckily i thought the CD sounded pretty neat too.

To get back on topic, well sort of, I'm sure that Bono's use of effects on his voice in the recording/mixing room are also discussed On the Def. Maybe dvd, but don't quote me on that.

yeah the new U2 is toppy - OTOH you can soon forget about that and listen to the music.

FWIW I always thought The Unforgettable Fire was pretty good - sound and music.

We still haven't noticed sibilance on several systems from our CD copy of newish U2 album. We bought 1st 2 Oasis albums on vinyl as well as CD for extra track on vinyl, and haven't been concerned about 'hi fi' quality of Oasis recordings. In 1980s we used to be concerned about 'odd' recording of U2 vinyl, but liked/like the music anyway.

Got the new lp and been listening all weekend ............. i really like the music but the recording seemed a little flat or shut in...............until that is , i tried it through the headphones .........sounded fantastic .....................

i also notice that they are marketing the new album along side the U2 ipod thing ......................so could this mean that the lp is eq ed for listening via headphones .

just a thought
