  2. Where we are now: The site is back up and running! The character set encoding issue has been fixed so old posts should now look ok. I am currently working on themes/skins etc and I will be deleting the temporary green skin very soon as it has many issues. I will do a very quick variation on the stock blue skin first just to get a light-grey background and san-serif font, and I will set this as default. Later this week I will hopefully add a professional third-party skin in pfm colours (life is way too short to do this crap myself, and I've found one I really like than needs next to no tweaking). We are getting there slowly...

  3. May I please request people check and update their email address if it is out if date. I ask as I’m getting countless bounce errors as the server fails to send notifications through etc. I’ll eventually figure out how to send these to a black hole somewhere, but it makes sense to address it at source as quite a few folk are obviously not getting the thread and conversations notifications they have set in their preferences.

  4. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Thank you for the encouragement...I will do when a good opportunity arises for me, hopefully soon (Boris is going to Iran at the weekend).

Do you have any evidence or reasoning to back that up or is it pure fantasy?

I liked the "shall we say" bit. The nautically themed rest made as much sense as,

I’m afraid it’s pure fantasy that we will tell Juncker to do one! We are where we are. There should be no 2nd vote. Most people I know are just getting on with things. If the others spent as much time and effort in doing the same rather than complaining, they might get somewhere.

    You're dodging the question.

Whatever you think about leaving the EU and the UK's prospects afterwards, this thread is about:

    1. Should there be another referendum?
    2. If there were, what would be the result?

    My answers are:

    1. No, we ought to respect the vote, however flawed it was. But if the public mood shows *clear* signs of change, it could be considered.
    2. A small but significant majority for Remain (based on SteveS1's excellent post upthread).

In response to 2 you said:

You provided no evidence or argument for that and you still haven't. So, as things stand it's just another Leave voters fantasy.

    Which part ?

My father came over as a POW post WW2.
My mother has been here from several generations, though from Ireland.
I was born here is perhaps the question you are asking.

    There are no 'pure' English.

Should this impact on my ability to see both the fence and what is over the other side ?

I have visited Romania several times in the 1970's and seen socialism/communism in action.
I would describe it more though as a dictatorship under a different guise.

Luckily we have the opportunity here to have an opinion without being sent to a labour camp for 12 years for having the 'wrong' opinion as my step mother suffered.

You might think from the level of 'debate' on here about leaving the EU that we were talking about a life or death situation..

That is the irony, I didn't.

You all just assume I did.

As you believe that Jeremy Corbyn wishes us to remain in the EU.

What were your reasons for voting for Brexit?
  12. Ponty

    1. No.
    2. Leave, by an increased majority, due to the EU showing their unreasonableness.
Without exception, the successful people I know adapt and embrace change, whether they agree with it or not. Goodnight.

"Goodnight"- a variation on "End of".

Maybe he's just going to bed, being a successful person and all.

Sad thing is I fear he *might* be right: if there *were* another referendum we would certainly be bombarded with "punishment beating" headlines from the DM etc.

It's hard to say if that would negate the currently observed small swing to Remain, the demographic timebomb (older voters dying, younger voters coming onstream) and a galvanised Remain vote (no complacency next time), but I can't completely rule it out.

  18. SteveS1

    SteveS1 I heard that, pardon?

It's a triumph for May at last.

Regulatory alignment still very much there, with no input to said regs as they can only be changed by the twenty seven. We've taken back control, except we have actually ceded some. Other than that, we are on the money. Speaking of which, we have paid more of that too, but hey.
