  2. Where we are now: The site is back up and running! The character set encoding issue has been fixed so old posts should now look ok. I am currently working on themes/skins etc and I will be deleting the temporary green skin very soon as it has many issues. I will do a very quick variation on the stock blue skin first just to get a light-grey background and san-serif font, and I will set this as default. Later this week I will hopefully add a professional third-party skin in pfm colours (life is way too short to do this crap myself, and I've found one I really like than needs next to no tweaking). We are getting there slowly...

  3. May I please request people check and update their email address if it is out if date. I ask as I’m getting countless bounce errors as the server fails to send notifications through etc. I’ll eventually figure out how to send these to a black hole somewhere, but it makes sense to address it at source as quite a few folk are obviously not getting the thread and conversations notifications they have set in their preferences.

  4. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Just watched this and it was a really entertaining documentary. I didn't know any of the backstory behind XTC (apart from "Swindon") having never been a big fan, so it filled in all the details as well as being really very funny. They had some great tunes too.

Andy has a McCartneyesque approach to his personal mythology. I've heard other interviews with him before about some of these same stories, and I've noticed that he uses the same phrases, the same syntax, every time, to the point where it becomes predictable.

If anyone hasn't seen this yet and doesn't want to pay Sky, here's a link:

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed the documentary and the way it illustrated the creative life of XTC. Andy Partridge is a bit of a poet really.

It was interesting to find out that XTC stopped touring when he started getting massive panic attacks onstage. This happened after he stopped taking valium, which he had been on since he was 12 years old.

Valium is very addictive. It must have been scary and mind boggling to come off it after so many years.

Yank, I’ll buy you a virtual pint, thank you so much for posting that. An excellent music documentary. XTC ticked most of the classic pop band career mistakes but also invented some unique ones. A bit like their music.

Do we know who ran off with the cash?

Did they ever generate enough for someone to bother running off?

According to wikipedia, a former manager is the prime suspect. The band came to a legal agreement with him, which seems to involve them not making allegations about his behaviour.

Thanks so much for that. We watched it last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
