1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

    Another high-end item:

First Watt F6, production version, designed and built by Nelson Pass. Super quiet, highly resolving, fast and dynamic Class A power amp that is at the same time smooth and non-fatiguing to listen to. A brilliant combination of purity, authority and flow. Very minimal circuit operating in push-pull with Mosfet output stage and input buffer using Jensen transformers.

Offered at £1850 to include delivery in the UK, which is a good bit less than it cost me to import. Comes with its original box and manual. Top condition barring a small touch of rubbing to the left side of the faceplate (pictured).

The rear label states 110V but it has been converted for 240V supply and sports a standard 3-pin IEC socket.

A world of information on the FirstWatt site here: http://www.firstwatt.com/f6.html

This is a brilliant amplifier. Absolute no brainer if you’ve got reasonably efficient speakers. I used one of these to drive my Impulse H2’s to great effect.

I’m listening to Kamaal Williams with it now on 92dB Monitor Golds and it’s sublime and authoritative. Definitely has the grunt for speakers down to 88db I’d say (depending on the size of the room). Would love to hear it with a really sensitive pair of speakers though.

Sorely tempted to keep this as it simply does nothing wrong, but I’ve overspent as usual. I may be open to a close offer for regular ‘fish...

‘Besides measuring reasonably well, the best sounding amplifiers:

    - tend to be simple
    - are intrinsically linear
    - run deep Class A
    - use high quality components

The best sounding amplifiers also pay close attention to:

    - the amount and scope of loop feedback
    - the use of degeneration (the other feedback) and output loading
    - the balance between types of feedback
    - the amount and character of distortion harmonics vs level and frequency
    - the appropriateness of gain devices for a given topology’

There has been excellent gear on here over the last year or so that has either not moved, such as Bourney's LV, or taken longer than I would have expected, such as this F6.
