Should anyone be in any doubt about the contention of the OP, that the Tory Party has open islamophobia- Michael Fabricant MP draws you a picture. With Ukip toast, we are now seeing the Conservative-EDL overlap. It’s beginning to get very ugly in Britain.

Oh look. Fabricant appears to have the flag of apartheid-era South Africa on his mantelpiece. https://twitter.com/FactCheck/status/1017724216010035200

We await the BBC headlines and the Sunday Times splash. Not.

Bloody hell, doesn't it just. I'm giving you 10/10 for your observational skills and another 10/10 for making me spit beer on my iPad.

Time to revisit this, to see if the Conservatives have taken effective action, and journalists have followed up to check that they have.

    No, and no.

Together they've done nothing, except ramp things up. Johnson has not been censured for his blatant and contemptuous mockery of Muslim women, as he must have known he would not be: he has been rewarded with publicity and rueful, barely disavowed support. Nothing from the PM. John Humphries and Alistair Birt on Today discussing what a great guy Johnson is.

The media from centre to right, meaning all of it, is Islamophobic, and so is politics. There is a reason that the new far right is using Islamophobia to enter the mainstream: they're pushing on an open door. Come in lads! We've made things comfortable for you! You want an interview? Your own show? Why not!

An exceptionally wealthy public school background, funny hair and a truly dreadful record in public office is all one needs to challenge accusations of Islamophobia.

Needless to say, it's not just Boris Johnson. The Conservative Party is racist to its core, as the rampant Islamophobia within it, and Theresa May's Windrush scandal show.

Baronness Warsi, the Conservative peer has been pushing for a full inquiry into Islamophobia in her party for several years, and recently claimed it goes all the way to the top. She has been repeatedly fobbed off. This makes barely a ripple in the mainstream media (it was reported for a day and then quickly forgotten).

I dislike whataboutism, but when the discrepancy between the coverage of Labour and the Conservatives is so stark, one has to call it out.

I wonder if there has been less fuss over Islamophobia because it’s now pretty pervasive across much of our political class and media the way antisemitism was a century or so ago. I was struck by the way so many commentators were very quick to defend Danny Finkelstein for being a board member of the vile Gatestone Institute when Abi Wilkinson (who I am not a big fan of) called him out on it. Their defence essentially amounted to “We know him, he’s a nice, polite, well-mannered man” so of course he couldn’t be the “racist scumbag” that Wilkinson accused him of being. Weapons-grade hypocrisy by the likes of Aaronovitch and Pollard, who have been so vocal in their comdemnation of Corbyn.

Michael White, former political editor of the Guardian, ffs, tweeted this over the discrepancy between coverage of Labour antisemitism and Tory islamophobia and then wondered what all the fuss was about: “Why ? It may be something to do with the fact that no Jews are plotting to blow up women and children at Manchester concerts or mow folk down with cars in London , Few Muslims are plotting either of course, but alas a few idiots can cause much grief” https://mobile.twitter.com/michaelwhite/status/1025361215726518272
    Still and TheDecameron like this.

Wow, the Gatestone Institute is quite the cesspit - thanks for bringing it to my attention. It's no surprise to see that Douglas Murray (who, as the BBC took great pains to remind us, is definitely not a "hate-preacher") is in his element there.

And that tweet from Michael White is something else, as are his attempts to defend it. Has he let himself go since he left The Guardian or has he always been a complacent "I can't be racist because I'm a thoroughly nice chap" idiot?

I’m reminded of Joe Johnson on QT claiming “Boris doesn’t have a racist bone in his body”. The corollary of course is- “he’s just a right wing opportunist who knows how to smell the mob”.
    Still and droodzilla like this.

Michael White had a punch-up with Alastair Campbell who objected to him making jokes about the death of Robert Maxwell. Anyone who has punched Campbell can’t be all bad, I suppose. But generally he comes across as an arrogant tosser on twitter.

Speaking of Douglas Murray, here's another link in the chain https://www.thejc.com/culture/books/book-review-the-strange-death-of-europe-1.467946 Note who the reviewer is.

Really? Possibly your grasp of news media is of a similar level to maxflinn.

Conservative Party 'not tackling' Islamophobia: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-45097400/conservative-party-not-tackling-islamophobia

The Conservatives’ response to accusations of Islamophobia doesn’t add up: https://www.newstatesman.com/politi...response-accusations-islamophobia-doesn-t-add

Boris Johnson accused of 'dog-whistle' Islamophobia over burqa comments:

Theresa May condemned for silence on Islamophobia in Tory party after Boris Johnson's niqab 'letter box' comments:

You've revisited my post, but what "media from centre to right" have you been monitoring during this time?
It appears none, and presumably there has to be some news sources you consider pure left and therefore trustworthy?
What have they been doing to expose Islamophobia in the Conservative party, and their failure to take action?

tbc I have no doubt the Islamophobia in the Conservative party is a big problem, but wondering if your revisit effort goes much beyond sloganeering on pfm.

Yet another attempt by the Marxist/Commie/Militant Tendency/Socialist Worker brigade who live on this site to try and deflect attention away from that idiot Corbyn and his anti-Semitic Labour party !
