1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

I missed him last year when he was here with Anne-Sophie Mutter to conduct his violin concerto with the RSNO. But did see him about 15 years ago conducting the SCO in his Sinfionetta with Martin FrÖst on clarinet. It was an example of his later more conservative style, it was sort of updated Shostakovich sound-world. Have to say I struggle with some of his 1950s & 60s stuff.

    RIP Krzysztof.

One of his pieces of music that I was impressed with is Threnody To the Victims of Hiroshima. Of it, he said "Let the Threnody express my firm belief that the sacrifice of Hiroshima will never be forgotten and lost."

Yes, I recall my mate Barry Forshaw playing that (Threnody) to me on his stereo Hacker set-up, circa 1965.
He (Barry!) was a true renaissance man, delving into music, art, literature.....now writes books.
