1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

    Bloody Hell!

you should see the high security fencing that surrounds the Celtic Manor resort in Newport and Cardiff for this bloody event!! its staggering.

I passed the Celtic Manor hotel where the summit is to reside and there are police/security et al everywhere.....

I passed two lots of 5 police bikers just riding up length of M4 (no VIP cars being escorted) police vans with riot gear, 'special' baseball capped police (CIA?)
    helicopters etc etc.

Who the hell is paying for this?

why don't hey just Skype each other? lol

Cardiff castle has double security fencing so the VIP's can gorge themselves at banquet.

meanwhile the salvation army has a soup bus a stones throw away to keep the homeless people fed and watered! they should have combined catering!!

Traffic is a bleeding nightmare, for what?

why don't they just have it in alcatraz each year, its easier to secure!

The most I ever saw was in Chennai, when Bill Clinton came to town there must've been armed military or police every twenty metres all over the city, it was very disconcerting. That's a point, we could outsource it and share the wealth.

We need a motto for the new NATO rapid reaction force for eastern European NATO members. Some suggestions:-

    - "Hello again Spetsnaz, haven't seen you since Berlin"
    - "Riga... ...shit. I'm still only in Riga"
    - "We already have a battle honour from Sevastopol actually"
    - "No more bagpipes, honest"
    - "Hey! English!" (Harry Palmer)
    - 'Nam and Afghan
    - We didn't mean to go to see
    - Ten, twenty million tops!
    - War is peace

    Any other suggestions?

Have a feeling a lot of them are staying up the road from me in Thornbury Castle... walked past last night and there is a huge police presence and a number of smartly dressed burly civilians (where normally its rare to see anyone)

Out with the camera down that way tonight for landscapes anyway... See if I can entice a response... ;)

Driving East on the M4 on Sunday I saw several hundred Police motorbikes vans and cars heading West. Quite a spectacle.

That was just Hampshire police sending a team to Spain to arrest Ashya Kings parents.

Typical police response, heavyhanded and in the completely wrong direction ;)

They'll be keeping a close eye/ear out for any Russian accents in that Salvation Army queue.

"Privyet fellow comrade rough sleeping brother! Not only are we sleeping rough due to the failure of bankrupt western capitalism, but I have been sleeping rough under a Banksy that is valued at £100,000 - much irony in the sell out and marketing of the counter culture icons of failed imperialism, brother. Good beet soup this. Anyway comrade, do you know by any chance know where I can see the American hotel windows?"

I saw what you were describing today. Police on every bridge over the M4/M48 from east of the old bridge to the Celtic Manor roundabout where I turned right towards Abergaveny. At least two dozen on the the roundabout plus about 10 vehicles. Then the steel fence for 2 miles with police every 100 or 200 yards.

I also saw two squadrons of police motorcycles travelling eastbound - not escorting anything, just motoring along.

There is a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) putting a c.20mile Restricted Airpace (Temporary) around Newport on 4th and 5th extending up to c.10,000ft. Dire interception warnings for infringement.

We went through the same bit yesterday on the m/cycle on the way to West Wales. I figured that as they were all standing on bridges there wouldn't be too many worrying about speeding. So I rode it like I stole it :D

Turns out almost all the police that are working the conference are being briefed locally, and there is a very high profile guest at the castle (according to a friend that works there, sadly she wouldnt be drawn on who).

The budget for the summit will be considerably less than that applied to the conflicts that it commits the UK to over the coming year or so, and the human cost to the suffering Welsh people negligible compared to those NATO votes to "assist".
