1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Possible eBay buyer question

I have an offer from a possible buyer but I’m a bit wary about it. Click on the users eBay ID, says it posts to a London postcode but they’re based in China. They’ve only been a member since 10/2018 with 100% feedback for just 3 items?

Seems a bit suspect or am I being too careful?

Sounds fishy. What’s the value of what you’re selling and what did they get feedback for? e.g. the purchase of some junk from their other fake account versus the sale of nice pair of speakers with collection only.

The item is worth around £2.5 - 3k but even if it was a lot less I'd still be wary about this one. I think I'll just leave their offer to expire today and leave it at that.

Can you check the address in London as sometimes they use a specialist shipper that freights onwards to China?

    Just checked the postcode - E3 3QR.

Did you ask why delivery is to a UK address?

    It sounds ok to me.

It's 51 Parcel Ltd. They specialist ship to China, same lot I have sent to before on an Ebay sale and it all went through fine, but still check out the buyer to be sure.

Had a similar thing here. Location was Bahrain but shipping to London. Had a few chats and turns out it was a storage company. Buyer was communicative and gave me numbers to call. All went ok. I took loads of photos including a video of the Parcelforce office though.

I was wary as I had a scammer at the same time for another item that was also based in Bahrain. This one tried three times under different names!

I have posted to a few like this. They have a set up here for Chinese buyers. Never had a problem.

GSP = Global Shipping Program - it's an eBay facility for shipping items internationally. I used it to ship a Hi-Cap to Italy, they sent the buyer an iPhone case from another seller, but maybe I was just unlucky.

I'd be happy doing the deal as long as the Payment was not via Paypal. That alone has put me off Ebay on what even looks like a cast iron genuine sale. Gone are the days I give a 6 month cooling off period when I'm a private and none trade seller.

After one unfair snatch back last year on an inexpensive item it's finished for me.......thousands of ways nowadays to get monies in to your account which when they land are safe.

My experience of the GSP is that it works very well. I would not ship outside the UK unless with the GSP.

I had an Italian offer on a Hicap but they didn't want to pay for the GSP, said it was too expensive.

Tough for them! It wasn't long before another buyer made a better offer locally.

I have sold to China using UK address though. No problem in that instance.

Did you set the listing for worldwide delivery, Is the user using a UK address so bypass your filter settings?

No international delivery - Uk only though he's provided a Uk postcode, then as someone said, it's then posted on to China. No idea what would happen if anything goes wrong but then I guess I'm only responsible for it reaching it's Uk destination.

Had forgot all about the Paypal 6 month cooling off period mentioned by KennyH. How can they expect that to stick. So someone can batter your item for 6 months and then return it - on what basis?

I'll ask the interested party to see if they'll pay direct - PayPal fees are over £100 for my item at the selling price. That's just a joke.

I like the GSP but I have sold stuff to a man from China and posted to a forwarder in London with no issues
