Much to my surprise I actually discovered this many years ago. Naim marketed their kit as a control unit (NAC) which I think for those with multiple sources is spot on. However the cost is in the degraded signal.

My control unit is a cheap switch unit that plugs directly into the two power amps from which I select record player or computer audio. Both my phono stage and DAC have ther own volume control built in.

    Cheers,

Bruno Putzeys Balanced Pre, Bpbp, it's a fully balanced, differential input buffer stage. Mine has two in one out and a TKD pot. Quiet, unobtrusive.

Hm, sounds sensitive on the face of it but could still need a few V for full power?

If you don’t need the gain then a Pass DCB1 would give you an excellent buffer stage / volume control.

Personally I enjoy a valve pre with SS power amps. Have had three or four variations on the theme now.

Coincidentally, ahem, I’m selling a very very nice Red Wine Audio valve preamp with switchable gain - 0 or 12db - that would allow you to have a play... and leave you change for a nice phono stage.
