1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

I've heard of Stereolab....but not sure I've heard them...and haven't heard of any of the others...

NY resolution to listen to some of this (slightly obscure?) stuff and broaden my horizons..

(says he with some 650GB of flac....) ;-)

haha we played this game t'other night whilst winding through a bottle of something nice and a stack of records. Making a Top 100 is easy - the hard bit is the top ten. In no particular order -

The Delgados - The Great Eastern (2000)
The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike (2005)
Beth Orton - Comfort Of Strangers (2006)
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People (2003)
    Sleater-Kinney - One Beat (2002)
    Bettie Serveert - Log 22 (2003)
British Sea Power - The Decline Of British Sea Power (2003)
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (2001)
The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls In America (2006)
Be Your Own Pet - Be Your Own Pet (2006)

Some are happy, some are angry, some wistful, some bonkers, some just got right under my skin.

Honourable mentions also to Saint Etienne, The Thermals, Le Tigre, Asobi Seksu, and Idlewild. On another day they'd be in there.

Not a bad decade, and although it's quite a conservative list I'm firm in the belief that there's loads of great new bands and music around. Finding it and listening to it has never been easier - this has been the biggest change in the last ten years.

given the obscurity of most of what's been posted, so far, it would be nice if people would provide a bit of description or at least label the genre.

Mark Farina: Air Farina (his own genre of dance)
Ian Pooley: Since Then (progressive house)
    Tiesto: Nyana (epic trance)

Gavin Bryars: O Mi Lasso (vernacular sacred music)
Grandaddy: The Sophtware Slump (indie pop)
African Guitar Summit, Vol. 2 (african guitar/singing)
Johnny Cash: American III - Solitary Man (country)
