    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

As someone eloquently pointed out eons ago Trump is merely a product of the real underlying problems. Unfortunately he will not solve those problems, but instead is making some of them worse.

I don't think that's true though. The point of Trump is that he is so outside the norms of acceptable that everybody's first priority is to get rid of him. He is not just a right wing authoritarian but a catastrophically incompetent one and a complete moral void. Your comment applies more, I think, to the GOP and to a chunk of the Democrats.

Which creates this terrible conundrum. Biden is *awful* but what if he really does have the best chance to defeat Trump? Of the credible Dem candidates I would prefer any of them over Biden but what if picking, say, Warren meant Trump won?

You couldn't help but lose all respect for the GOP machine when Katherine 'uber GILF' Harris didn't deservedly rise through the ranks.

I hope you're right and Trump is just a lightning strike. My point is that if the real problems of the USA (and the UK) are not addressed there will be another Trump and another BJ and then we really will be in trouble.

And it raises the question if Trump and BJ are so bad why is it so hard to find excellent candidates to run against them ?

but what does "excellent" mean and from which perspective? the problem is that the mainstream media has a massive influence on public perceptions and they are currently at war with the progressive left, in the UK and USA. there is a ton of enthusiasm for bernie and if they just went along with it, we would be jumping up and down about a very excellent candidate.

instead, mark shields and others on the news tell us that medicare for all is a crazy, unpopular idea, even though it polls at 70%. what they really mean is that such ideas are unpopular with the people they attend cocktail and dinner parties with.

Another part of why is the closed ranks meritocracy of the DNC that results in a pecking order of MIC fellatio artists tucked neatly in a line.

Yes great shame Bernie didn't win nomination and election. What a different world we would be in.

You are correct that 70% polled support Medicare for all. More specifically, all who want it. They support presenting it as an option. But only 41% support doing away completely with private health insurance. This is why all Democratic candidates (except Warren and Sanders) support adding a public option to the ACA.

Do you recall the GOP backlash against the ACA, and how It fueled the rise of the Tea Party? How do you think the GOP would react to Warren or Sanders plan? In addition, people with “employer sponsored” health insurance, especially union workers, are very mistrustful of losing what they perceive as a good deal.

I favor socialized medicine and eliminating private insurance. I believe it is a racket that is well past it’s sell date. But I also believe that the all-or-nothing approach will fail, while adding a public option (one with lower costs and equal/better benefits) could accomplish the same goal over time. The GOP will paint an absolutist approach as socialism gone wild. But it will be much harder for them to attack individual people (including their own constituencies) making their own choice about healthcare.

I also have no problem with the continued existence of supplemental private insurance over the next decade or two, and especially if this presents a way to more gently wind the health insurance industry down over time. This would hopefully give the 2.5M health insurance employees ample opportunity to seek new careers.

Trump has just stuck tariffs on Brazilian steel. One in the eye for his fascist friend Bolso. No honour among thieves. He arrives in London tomorrow- what’s the betting that he publicly blames the London Bridge attack on the Mayor of London?

I am aware of what you were trying to imply with "Hook's supposed M.O.".

My response was a light-hearted, Monty Python-themed way of saying that this was incorrect.

Or what London Bridge really needs is more good people with guns.

As BJ seems pretty confident about the election outcome, I'd guess he is feeling very uneasy about this visit, and what Trump might say.

Same as what I did. Point it out and question the motives of the source and how it may benefit the sponsors.
