1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

We didn't used to have a left wing and a right wing party. There were liberals and conservatives in both parties. I don't think there's much space between, say, John F. Kennedy and Nelson Rockefeller. It mostly realigned around civil rights.

Remember, Lincoln was a Republican. So in the last half of the 19th Century and first half of the 20th, people who oppressed Blacks and minorities were all Democrats. The KKK were all Democrats.

Those "Southern Democrats" are all Republicans now.

But white Christian rural and northern America voted Republican. (A different Republican, still conservative, but less racist, more rational, and occasionally willing to concern themselves with aspects of the public good....)

Anyway, that party has morphed into the Kleptocratic Populists, southern culture has infected white working class culture across America, and the result is the ascendency of the Trump Republicans looks and feels like the nationwide ascendancy of the old Dixiecrats.

And I therefore think one key to Democratic victory is to wedge off suburban educated whites who don't really want to identify with the party of the ignorant rednecks.

I'm surprised so little has been written about the ecological impacts of the wall. That's a road runner, who after years of outsmarting Wile E. Coyote, has been thwarted by the orange ogre's fence and barbed wire.

About what one would expect from Frum, the Bush speech-writer who coined the phrase "Axis of Evil".

    SteveS1 I heard that, pardon?

Doesn't he just have to run a few hundred yards left or right to get round it?

But, from what I can gather from his other writings, very much a never Trumper, who dearly wants The Orange One gone. And I have seen other articles mentioning Democrats who won in difficult areas in 2018 professing themselves very worried about the impact of Bernie and his ideas. I think a lot of Bernie's ideas are excellent, they just don't seem appropriate for the USA in its current state, at least from the point of view of this particular outsider looking in.

The really big money will be in mass hospitalizations.

Vaccination = $200 per person (my guess - could be more or less)
Intensive care stay = $10k per day.

Much as I dislike the behavior of pharma most of the big money in US healthcare is in hospital stays. One 5-10 day stay in ICU for one coronavirus victim would pay for vaccination of thousands of people.

How ironic - the only age group to shun socialism is the age group benefiting from it (Social security, medicare). I remember the elderly idiots protesting Obamacare as socialized medicine (far from it) while greedily consuming their medicare.

I've only watched the first 30 minutes of Bloomberg's Town Hall. Any man who explains something, accepts that he made a mistake then apologises and states that we must all learn from the mistakes we make gets my vote. That, allied to his thoughts on the 2nd Amendment and his long term plans revolving around experts as opposed to himself makes more sense than you will hear from almost any politician.

He will not get elected because he doesn't do soundbites. That's a shame. This is the kind of thinking that the USA and the Planet needs, despite what some deluded individuals would have you believe. Sadly it is both too involved and to logical for the majority of American voters.
