I am sitting listening to what is possibly one of my favourite Steve Miller albums - Recall The Beginning: A Journey From Eden when on the last track, Journey from Eden he sings 'Listen to the blackbird sadly sing'.

I started wondering how many other great pieces of music reference wildlife to great effect in one way or another. I thought of Vaughn Williams - Lark Ascending; The Beatles - Blackbird; Jesse Colin Young - Ridgetop but there must be loads more......

Kate Bush has whale song and bird song in her songs.

    Does that count?

There are lots of songs with Crocodiles in them, never mind Alligators...

The B52's Song For A Future Generation mentions black-capped chickadees.
Captain Beefheart's The Dust Blows Forward And The Dust Blows Back mentions gophers, bluejays and blackbirds.

Irish traditional music has countless references to fauna - Blackbirds, Chickens, Cows, Ducks, Drakes, Eagles, Goats, Hares, Hens, Larks, Wrens (a revered bird in many cultures and called by many The King of Birds) and that is a small sample of my collection.

In the mid 70s there was a thread in the NME that went on for weeks that changed a word in the title of an LP title with the word duck. So we had Obscured by Duck, Dark Side of the Duck, Thick as a Duck, Dark Duck of the Moon, Tales of Topographic Duck, etc etc. Not quite sure if this is what the OP had in mind though, and it was the 70s..........

When I were a lad - aged 6 or 7 - I was given the most important role in the whole school orchestra - the Nightingales Call. I basically had to blow into a little black box with a tube on the top to replicate a bird thing singing

Later on in life it kind of turned into the reverse - for a while.

All part of lifes rich tapestry / jigsaw I suppose

I think I would definitely buy an album called Obscured by Duck.
